PLANNING
GEM has accumulated decades of studio development experience that is brought to bare with initial research and planning necessary in determining the viability of a film and television studio business. Much of what we do involves documenting and demonstrating production demand, capacity of service providers, crew, and a clear need for studio space. We then create high functioning site plans based on that research, and operating financial analysis of the studio business allowing potential studio owners/developers a solid perspective of the studio development prior to comitting construction capital.
DEVELOPMENT
GEM's broad and extensive knowledge of the film and television studio business has resulted in numerous contracts to aid in the design and construction of studio properties. Most engagements involve leading architects, engineers, and general contractor teams ini defining performance specifications to ensure constructing a state-of-the-art facility. Projects from concept to fruition are numerous, as are the geographic locations. In total, GEM has lead and worked with design and construction teams to construct several million square feet of soundstages, production offices, production support, and studio infrastructures in dozens of international locations.
OPERATIONS
Independent studio owners unfamiliar with the studio business require guidance in starting a studio operation. Given the breadth of experience, including extensive experience overseeing new studio operations, GEM is occasionally tasked with managing the start-up of operations, policies, procedures, job descriptions, staffing, training, development of studio services and annual operating budgets. The years of studio operations experience includes contract negotiations with multi-national media conglomerates and individual productions for leasing of real property, labor, equipment and services
